Autumn and early spring are the two periods in the year when the wedding fayres happen in force. But rather than traipse around the massive arenas of vendors at the big shows, we are much more excited about the unique and local events going on – especially when they look as beautiful as this…

The London Vintage Wedding Fair happens twice a year and is a feast for the eyes with vintage wedding ideas. This boutique event shows the very best UK vintage dealers, who are invited to sell their most precious antique lace and vintage dresses – those hard to find, beautiful pieces – in amazing condition. To complement the dresses are a selection of designers of bridal accessories and one-off designs and other ideas such as room props to hire… Or you can take it as simply an opportunity to browse and borrow ideas for your vintage wedding theme – glass of champers in hand…

The fair takes place on Saturday October 24th, 11am – 5pm at Westborne Grove. Tickets cost just £7 in advance (or £10 on the day) including a free gift so head over to their site to book your place.

Unfortunately the Eco Chic Wedding and Home event is not happening this year due to each of the organisers having newbown babies to look after – but we look forward to it’s return in 2011.

As this is the season for it, keep your eyes peeled for wedding dress sale events. Buying vintage is a great way of asserting your personal style without the excess of creating a new dress to be worn for just one day.

Other vintage wedding dress ideas could include re-forming your Mum’s dress into a contemporary style, such as Stella McCartney did with her Mum Linda’s wedding dress design. (I am keeping my dress especially in the secret hope that if I have a daughter she will do just that…)

Fantastic flats

Choose your shoes…

For a colourful wedding then a choice of shoes other than ivory is perfect. If you have gone for a long dress, a flash of colour as you walk down the aisle will create intrigue.

Colourful shoes work perfectly with a vintage style tea-dress which finishes mid-length, showing your playful side – and will look amazing coordinated with your flowers or the bridesmaids dresses.

If you want to be able to wear them again then ivory shoes really restrict what you can wear them with – plus they will get dirty SO fast and be a nightmare to clean… so to reduce the ‘cost-per-wear’ go for a pair you will wear again and again…

Two great places to get colourful flat shoes that are both stylish and eco friendly are Beyond Skin and TraidRemade.

TRAIDremade have just released their new recycled shoe range with the star attraction being the Golightly Zip pump (above) made using vintage reclaimed textiles – black silk pump with  fuscia pink zip bow detailing finished with a vintage button – perfect for the brides shoes or bridesmaids.

Beyond Skin have a fantastic range of vegan shoes including some amazing colours which come in heels or flats – but we love the Sole range (currently reduced to £39) of flats in seemingly any colour of the rainbow – so no need to fork out for bespoke dyeing…

If you want to create a moodboard of the colours you like and some fun ideas before heading to the shops, then use the moodboard feature on Wedding Notebook.co.uk
