Spa days, wine tasting, river trips, coasteering adventures – A gift experience makes a refreshing change to the usual suspects of physical objects, flowers or chocolates…

I think gift of an experience can be the most thoughful – a timely given pampering treat for someone who needs a break is most appreciated. And when it is an experience that can be shared, the time spent together is treasured and creates memories that will last much longer than a box of confectionary.

that’s why I was excited to hear about Giv’Organic – a brand new concept of ethical gift experiences – from winetasting at organic vineyards to top treatments by hairstylists & beauticians using organic & natural products. Launched just in time for last minute Valentines gifts, everything on the site is organic, natural or eco-friendly, meaning the giver can show love for the recipient AND the planet.  And for the whole month of February to celebrate the launch, Giv’Organic is offering a 10% discount on all gifts and experiences. when you use the code LAUNCHGIVO at checkout.

There are experiences offered nationwide so you can search by region. Prices start at just £10 and the recipient receives a voucher for their experience. Browse the gift experiences on the Giv’Organic website

If you are unsure what to get, then Giv’Organic offer gift vouchers which can be redeemed on experiences on their site, but also at the online eco-stores of their partners offering ethical fashion, cosmetics, baby products and more.

Charity shops may not have been at the forefront of your mind when deciding where to get some new lingerie, but Mary Portas’ Living & Giving shops in London will be distributers of certain lines of luxury designer underwear Rigby & Peller.

At exclusive evening events on Thursday 10th February at the Westborne Grove and Primrose Hill Living & Giving stores, Rigby & Peller will be donating designer samples and end-of-line pieces to the stores to be sold to raise funds for Save the Children. Also available are one-off made-to-meaure items as well as pieces worn by A-list celebrities at photoshoots around the world.

Mary Portas came up with the initial concept for the Living & Giving stores during her TV series reinventing the charity shop to encourage people who hadn’t previously to donate clothes they have become bored with rather than throw them out, giving them a new lease of life, including designer lables and high end goods. The concept has gone from strength to strength with a pop-up store at Westfields London last year and two boutiques opening in fashionable West London districts and another in Edinburgh.

So not only can you own designer luxury lingerie, but know that the price you paid has gone stright to charity – double bonus!

Spring is here and I am itching to get some of my new seasons resolutions going. Spring seems so full of promise and new starts to an ideal time to make new-start resolutions, rather than dreary New Year.

A trip down to UK Aware this weekend will get me going, especially in the area of fashion and eco living. Here are my resolutions and how UK Aware will help:

Clear out my wardrobe and have a fresh season start: The girls at Daisy Green are organising a massive clothes swap event – if there was ever and incentive to get my wardrobe sorted, this is it. So in Gok Wan stylee, clear out your closet, bring the ‘recycle’ pile along to the show to swap for fine new togs for free!!

Customise the pieces I love but don’t quite work: After watching Twiggy’s fashion programme last year I was inspired to make the most of fabrics/clothes that have memories that I can’t bear to part with – but fashions change. Well, TRAID will be on hand at the event to help you breathe new life into old peices, again giving you a fresh new look for minimal effort…

Bonus: The fashion show from Lupe Castro, and the fashion & trend experts from TRAID will have loads of ideas for this seasons looks that you can pick up on…

Be a more economic driver: Apparently the way we drive can affect how much petrol we use and therefore efficiency. The Green Mchines Expo have some handy gadgets that show you how economically you drive, especially the use of the foot on gas and break pedals, and tips for saving ££ now petrol prices are going through the roof.

Get my garden gorgeous: I long to be able to host a ‘pims and cake’ party in my garden, with bunting along the fence and the sun beamong down on the brightly coloured borders…but the reality is the garden is a mess. With interactive workshops from Global Action Plan I’ll be making tracks.

Have an efficient & beautiful home: If I could just win the £2000 solar heating kit from Hatch, get my free room heat loss report from UK Sustainables, win £250 of free renewable energy from Good Energy, get my 20% off paint from Eco Paint Store and claim my £5 voucher from Pure Design, then I’ll be sorted…phew!

After all that I’ll be needing to claim my free* massage from Tamu organic beauty products…

To grab your UK Aware tickets for a bargain price of £6 then click here. Though if you are happy rocking up to Olympia on the day and paying £15 then feel free…

One of the things that will make your bridal style unique is the jewellery you wear. A tricky business as it has to compliment the dress without distracting from it -and then there is the consideration of its origins…
When picking things out just remember the three aspects of eco chic (as penned by designer Oliver Heath) nature, technology and vintage.

Vintage choker from ebay

Vintage:
Ask your mum, or mother-in-law, if there is any family jewellery you could borrow for the day. I wore a necklace that had been a gift from A’s Grandad to his wife, and it made the M-I-L’s day to see me wearing it. It was a gorgeous leaf design which complimented the theme of our autumn wedding amazingly.

Follow the style of others and look for vintage bling at markets or on etsy and ebay. Ellen, a rock&roll bride featured on OffbeatBrides found this amazing creation on ebay…

Nature inspired from People Tree

Nature:
This may conjour up image of daisy chains, but also think of jewellery that has been fairly traded or made from natural materials – just check the sources they come from (diamonds are natural stones afterall – and see the trouble they cause!)…
People Tree, the UK’s leading Fairtrade fashion company currently has 20% off their jewellery collection, plus free delivery until the 6th May

Made is a unique brand of fraitrade jewellery and has ranges from designers such as Nicole Farhi, Alexa Chung and Peaches Geldof

The engagement ring is an entirely different story alltogether so we’ll leave that for another time…
