We are now in the throws of wedding fayre season. There are so many it is hard to know which will be the best for you…

Many hotels host wedding fayes in low season so you can go and look at local venues and meet local vendors (great to know the vendors are close by and so cutting down on those wedding-miles!)

The great thing about these fayres is that you meet lots of vendors all in one fell swoop, saving you time searching the web or the yellow pages – and the services they provide can also save you time, but at a cost.

What about if you want to make the invites, sew the bridemaids dresses, bake the cupcake tower and arrange the flowers? If you have the time (and are well organised) there is nothing stopping you – but you may want some expert advice on how to go about it and get some inspiration.

Well, there is now a wedding fayre dedicated to all things handmade and will be held in Truro this Sunday 6th Feb. Styled as an afternoon tea event, including bubbly, there will be hourly how-to workshops to give you ideas and expert crafting advice, as well as being able to meet lots of local designer-makers with fresh ideas for making your wedding unique. For more details check out the Handmade Wedding Fayre Facebook page.

And if you can’t get to Cornwall then lets hope we can pursuade some creative types to start expanding the idea to other areas of the country. In the meantime check out some DIY wedding ideas and save time by being super organised with an online wedding to-do-list.

Dress – check.
Shoes – check.
Jewellery – undecided…

Your wedding jewellery is the icing on the cake, and needs to compliment the outfit, theme and style perfectly. With so much choice available it can be difficult to choose, or at least compare the options.

What you need is a location with a variety of brands all in one place for easy comparison. And you are in luck as this week, as part of London Jewellery Week, CRED jewellery are hosting Essence, the jewellery equivelent to Esthetica (the ethical area of London Fashion Week) with a pavillion dedicated to showing the best of ethical jewellery and designers.

Set within Treasure, the general jewellery pavillion, Essence will be showcasing designs from ethical brands including April Doubleday, Avasarah, Choo Yilin, CRED, Fifi Bijoux, Leblas, Oria and Ute Decker. See a list of all the exhibitors. The event includes seminars and panels about exciting new tresnds in jewellery and about ethical and fairtrade developments, plus other benefits such as free make-uppers from beauty experts Benefit…you’ll need it after a day of window shopping…

The show is this weekend, Friday 11th – Sunday 13th June and combined tickets for entry to Treasure & Essence cost just £5 on the door…though if you contact CRED they can send you a 2-for-1 voucher for entry…

Spring is here and I am itching to get some of my new seasons resolutions going. Spring seems so full of promise and new starts to an ideal time to make new-start resolutions, rather than dreary New Year.

A trip down to UK Aware this weekend will get me going, especially in the area of fashion and eco living. Here are my resolutions and how UK Aware will help:

Clear out my wardrobe and have a fresh season start: The girls at Daisy Green are organising a massive clothes swap event – if there was ever and incentive to get my wardrobe sorted, this is it. So in Gok Wan stylee, clear out your closet, bring the ‘recycle’ pile along to the show to swap for fine new togs for free!!

Customise the pieces I love but don’t quite work: After watching Twiggy’s fashion programme last year I was inspired to make the most of fabrics/clothes that have memories that I can’t bear to part with – but fashions change. Well, TRAID will be on hand at the event to help you breathe new life into old peices, again giving you a fresh new look for minimal effort…

Bonus: The fashion show from Lupe Castro, and the fashion & trend experts from TRAID will have loads of ideas for this seasons looks that you can pick up on…

Be a more economic driver: Apparently the way we drive can affect how much petrol we use and therefore efficiency. The Green Mchines Expo have some handy gadgets that show you how economically you drive, especially the use of the foot on gas and break pedals, and tips for saving ££ now petrol prices are going through the roof.

Get my garden gorgeous: I long to be able to host a ‘pims and cake’ party in my garden, with bunting along the fence and the sun beamong down on the brightly coloured borders…but the reality is the garden is a mess. With interactive workshops from Global Action Plan I’ll be making tracks.

Have an efficient & beautiful home: If I could just win the £2000 solar heating kit from Hatch, get my free room heat loss report from UK Sustainables, win £250 of free renewable energy from Good Energy, get my 20% off paint from Eco Paint Store and claim my £5 voucher from Pure Design, then I’ll be sorted…phew!

After all that I’ll be needing to claim my free* massage from Tamu organic beauty products…

To grab your UK Aware tickets for a bargain price of £6 then click here. Though if you are happy rocking up to Olympia on the day and paying £15 then feel free…

Make Do & Mend

…a phrase as much used by our grannies in WW2 as ourselves in this ‘credit crunch’ era, is the focus of a fashion extravaganza tomorrow hosted by Oxfam Chelsea.

The kings road store is holding a fashion fix event at St Mary’s church, Marylebone from 2pm – 10.30pm, where their best pieces will be shown on the catwalk, then auctioned off. There will also be stalls of vintage acessories to wedding dresses, so head on down there to grab some unique pieces for your big day.

If you are just after a budget fashion fix, with all that saving you are doing for the wedding, then take along some of your less used wardrobe items for the swap shop or ‘customisation corner’. You may be able to pick up some ideas for creating your own style for your wedding from bits you already have…

There will be live music, food & fun to keep you going, and remember you are buying from Oxfam, so with all the fabulous bargains you are picking up, you are also giving to charity – double bonus.

For more details on timings of all the events throughout the day, head to their facebook page

We all had a great time on Thursday at the Sex and the City event celebrating the launch of the Organic Surge skincare range into Boots stores nationwide – is that why the event was held at a London cinema next door to a Boots store?

Here is the red carpet shot of Liza and I at the event:
